Kennel Hannula Renholms has existed just since 1996, but our family got its first dog Olga already in 1978. As far as we know, she was the first Manchester terrier in Finland in modern age. She came to us from Gävle in Sweden. We believe that also our second dog Speedy, a Manchester terrier from Sweden as well, joined us before others noticed this breed. But, in spite of owning a boy as well as a girl, we are not responsible for the boost of this breed here in Finland during the late 90ies. The credit for this should most likely be given to Liisa Koskinen and her kennel Kimblewick in Haukivuori in the eastern part of Finland. Our third dog Dessi was bought in Finland from Kennel Kimblewick in Villähde near Lahtis. This kennel has since become a close partner to our own kennel. |

Cita came second among Manchester bitches in the World Dog Show in Helsinki 1998. Here she is presented by Kirsi Hiltunen to the judge Nerolie de Lavis-Trafford |

| As a rule, our dogs have
usually come out well in dog shows. But they do resemble
beautiful women in one aspect; all of them do not like
exposing themselves in public. For instance, our Cita
likes shows, whereas Maj does not. Furthermore, Maj only
too often kisses the judge, which is not considered
appropriate (see, however, latest development on our newslink). Consequently, we dont consider success in exhibitions to be the main purpose of our kennel activity. Instead we try to breed dogs that from the start grow up in a home, not in separate boxes. They are going to join a family somewhere and some time, so they start with us. You can learn more about us and our family by following up the link Miscellaneous, This would require some knowledge of the Swedish language, I am afraid, if you are not content to just look at the pictures. For those who care about show success, we try to update our news link further down (Latest news / Ahead) As you can notice from the picture up top, our dogs are allowed rare freedom; they may even occupy the sofa. Of course, whether this goes for the puppies as well, remains to be seen later on. The new family takes over well before the sofa age. |

| We feel very pleased that dog-minded people in the Helsinki area seem to have got their eyes opened to this fine, sound and clean breed. We also feel that in this development Kennel Hannula Renholms may have played a part. | ||||
| Breed descriptions should
appear in almost every web-site dealing with this breed,
so please check on some of the links further down. There is, though, one aspect which we think has not been stressed sufficiently. This is the Manchester terriers quality in respect of allergic people. One of the main things when we started to choose a dog breed years back, was to look for a sort which would need just a gentle stroke with a moist rag to get clean when coming in wet and muddy. No washing, no rubbing, no brushing. This is exactly how it works with the short, smooth and shiny fur of the Manchester terrier. In addition, the fur seems to irritate allergic persons less than usual and we have yet to meet anyone reacting to our dogs at home. But we have learned of persons who are allercic to the dog's saliva. We are planning to investigate further into this matter. We know that some breeds are being scientifically studied here in Helsinki. |
